As nightmares and dreams in general are usually not as sharp and clear as day would you think for the nightmare character some really abstract and lost edges would work? 


Flying into the sunset on the nightmare

Metaphor:
Like ship and its figurehead sailing into the sunset.
Surfing the nightmare of a wave as it's roaring behind like an acid rain of seaweed.

Feeling:
Looks like it could portray a happy feeling but somehow it is very sad

Nightmare Gardening
Do we want to make this in a way more interesting and showing the ordinary side of the nightmare. He's like any other bloke and when he is off duty he is taking care of his garden

Metaphors:
a hungry bear frantically trying to fits its stomach full of berries in the forest as his eyes fall on the first cluster of chanterelle(mushrooms) ripe for picking.

These first sketches are for the girl riding the beast into the sunset idea. They're mostly just compositions and creature design sketches.

The sketches below are for the whales vs. whale hunters idea. I think that might be a fun direction to go, but I honestly think our other ideas are better, so maybe not.

The last sketch is for the nightmare gardener idea. I have him harvesting dreams, picking ripe ones to put in a cage which he carries over his shoulder. The second part of the image shows dreams, beautiful but sad, imprisoned in cages back at his home.

Okay here's some ideation.

I think my wrds describe these ideas better than my ideation sketches.
Once we settle on the idea, I'll post more thumbnailing and clealer ideation sketches.


"Beauty Riding the Nightmare Into Sunset":
-The idea I emailed you about. We could make this more scifi too, steam punk, put them in space, or more fantasy like described in the email. Would be exited if we developed the ideation of this further too.

From your whale idea I found myself looking at, "Beauty taming the Nightmare":
-this could be a brawl between the too, could easily play with creative angles and the two panels we have could show the brawl in two stages or use it to use two different camera angles or close up vs. telephoto.

"Nightmare Gardening":
-What if we had the Nightmare doing what it does while we are awake? Its a normal character who needs some time for itself. Perhaps a dark place with scary abstract forest/plant surroundings with a colorfully glowing garden. What is he gardening, any thoughts?

Okay these are more ideation than compositions.

I'm gonna work more on these to try to get the bad ones out of the way and develop the ideation. These are all quite similar so I will try to get away from it. These are also all the beauty and the beast mode so I'll try to find different solutions. Also I'll do some thumbs off of your ideation too.

This being just ideation a lot can be done with changing into more interesting angles and showing more in the background etc.

I think I'll kick this off by writing down my word lists and some of my favorite things to draw.
